Understand How Beryl Improves Lighting and Shadows
What Beryl's Shader Pipeline Does
Beryl Mod replaces Minecraft's default lighting system with a more advanced renderer. This means:
- Dynamic shadows – Objects and terrain cast realistic shadows that respond to light position
- Enhanced ambient lighting – Caves and interiors receive better color and depth perception
- Improved water and glass – Reflections and refraction appear more natural
- Better color accuracy – Blocks display richer, more vibrant hues
How It Maintains Performance
Unlike traditional shader packs that can tank FPS, Beryl uses Vulkan's optimized rendering pipeline. Vulkan processes graphics commands more efficiently than older APIs, allowing complex lighting calculations without frame rate penalties.
Seeing the Difference
Compare your world before and after enabling Beryl. Look at:
- Shadows cast by trees at sunset
- Lighting inside caves and buildings
- Water surface reflections
- Color depth in grass, wood, and stone
These improvements are most noticeable in varied terrain with mixed lighting conditions. The mod's built-in shader pack is pre-optimized, so you get professional-quality visuals without manual configuration.
