How to Recolour Chat Messages with Colour Codes

Beyond rearranging text, the mod lets you colour the different parts of a chat line — the timestamp, the username, and the message body — using colour codes in the config.

Where colours go

Open the mod's config on the server and look at the format and colour options. Colour codes are inserted into the format string around the placeholders, so the code before the username placeholder colours the username, and the code before the message placeholder colours the message. Because it is all one string, you control each segment independently.

Picking and applying codes

Use standard Minecraft colour codes — the same ones used in chat and MOTD formatting. Place the code immediately before the placeholder you want to affect, and place a reset code after it if you want the following text to return to default. This prevents the username's colour from bleeding into the message body.

Testing on the server

Restart the server and have someone type a message. Check each segment: timestamp, username, and message should show the colours you set, with no unwanted carry-over. If a colour runs too far, you are missing a reset. Adjust the string, restart, and re-test until each part is isolated.
