Beautified Chat Server Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I change the chat format on the server?
Open the mod's config file on the server and edit the chatMessageFormat option, then restart or reload the server. The format uses placeholders for the timestamp, username, and message, which you can rearrange however you like.
Do players need the mod installed on their client to see the chat changes?
No. This is the server variant, so only the server needs the mod in its mod list. All connected players see the beautified chat automatically, even with a vanilla client.
How do I remove the timestamp from chat?
Edit the chatMessageFormat config option and delete the timestamp placeholder from the format string. Save the config and the timestamp will no longer appear in chat.
How do I make the timestamp show AM/PM instead of 24-hour time?
Change the timestamp format option in the config to use a 12-hour pattern with an AM/PM marker. The default is 24-hour, so you need to edit the timestamp format string yourself.
How do I add colours to chat messages?
Use Minecraft colour codes in the chatMessageFormat and related config options to set the colour of each part of the message. You can colour the timestamp, username, and message text separately.
Where is the config file for this mod?
The config file is generated in the server's config folder after the mod runs for the first time. Look for the Beautified Chat Server config file there and edit it with a text editor.
Does this mod work on a server without installing it on clients?
Yes, that's exactly what the server variant is for. It changes chat for everyone connected without requiring any client-side installation.
Can I use colour codes and formatting codes together in the format?
Yes, you can combine colour codes with formatting codes like bold or italic in the format string. Just make sure each code is placed before the text you want it to affect.
My chat format changes aren't showing up, what did I do wrong?
Make sure you saved the config file and restarted or reloaded the server, since changes only apply after a reload. Also check that your format string placeholders are spelled correctly, as a typo can break the whole format.
Does this mod cause lag or performance issues on the server?
No, the mod only reformats chat messages as they are sent, which is a very lightweight operation. It should not have any noticeable impact on server performance.
