How to Change the Chat Message Format in Beautified Chat Mod

Find and open the config file

Beautified Chat Mod stores its settings in a config file inside your Minecraft config folder. Locate the file for the mod and open it with any plain text editor. You will see entries like chatMessageFormat and timestampFormat.

Edit the format string

chatMessageFormat controls the entire layout of each chat line. The default is %timestamp% | %username%: %chatmessage%. You can rearrange, remove, or add separators around these variables:

  • %timestamp% — replaced by the time, formatted using timestampFormat.
  • %username% — the sender's name.
  • %chatmessage% — the actual message text.

For example, putting %username% first and %timestamp% at the end moves the clock to the right side of the line. You can also drop %timestamp% entirely if you only want names, or drop %username% if you only want times. Any literal text you type (brackets, dashes, spaces) stays as-is in the output.

Save and reload

Save the file, then restart the game or reload the config so the change takes effect. Send a test message in chat to confirm the new layout looks the way you want. If something looks wrong, re-open the file and check that each variable is spelled exactly as shown.
