Beautified Chat Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open or edit the Beautified Chat Mod config?
The mod is configured through its config file rather than an in-game menu, so you edit the values directly in that file and then reload or restart the game for changes to apply. Look for the Beautified Chat config file in your Minecraft config folder.
What do the placeholders like %timestamp%, %username% and %chatmessage% do?
These are the variables you place inside chatMessageFormat to control what appears in each chat line. %timestamp% inserts the time from timestampFormat, %username% inserts the sender's name, and %chatmessage% inserts the actual message text.
Why isn't my chat format changing after I edit the config?
Most likely the game hasn't reloaded the config, so save the file and restart Minecraft (or reload if the mod supports it). Also double-check you edited the correct config file and didn't leave a typo in a placeholder name.
How do I make the timestamp show seconds or use 12-hour time?
Change timestampFormat to a pattern that includes seconds or the AM/PM marker, such as adding :ss for seconds or using the hh:mm a style for 12-hour time. The format follows standard Java time patterns.
How do I remove the timestamp or username from chat?
Simply delete the corresponding placeholder from chatMessageFormat. For example, removing %timestamp% leaves only the username and message, and removing %username% hides the sender's name.
How do I color the timestamp, username and message separately?
Each of those elements has its own color setting in the config, and you set them using the numeric color codes (0 for black, 1 for dark blue, and so on). Assign a different code to each element so they render in distinct colors.
What color codes can I use and where do I put them?
The mod uses numeric color codes from 0 upward, where 0 is black, 1 is dark blue, 2 is dark green, 3 is dark aqua, 4 is dark red, 5 is dark purple, and 6 is gold, with more values for the remaining colors. You enter the number into the relevant color config option for the timestamp, username, or message.
Does Beautified Chat Mod work on a server, or does everyone need it?
It's a client-side mod, so it only changes how chat looks on your own screen and doesn't need to be installed on the server or by other players. You can use it on any server that allows client-side mods.
Will Beautified Chat Mod conflict with other chat mods or cause lag?
Because it only reformats chat text locally, it has minimal performance impact and generally doesn't cause lag. Conflicts can happen if another mod also rewrites chat formatting, so if chat looks wrong, try disabling the other chat mod to isolate the issue.
Can I add my own text or symbols around the message, like brackets?
Yes, any text in chatMessageFormat that isn't a placeholder is printed literally, so you can wrap elements in brackets, add separators, or insert custom words. Just keep the placeholder names spelled exactly as the mod expects.
