Set up BCLib on a server so BetterX mods work for everyone

BCLib runs on both the client and the server. If only one side has it, players usually cannot join or the server will not start.

Server and client checklist

1. Put the BCLib file in the server's mods folder.

2. Put the same BCLib file in the mods folder of every player's client.

3. Add the BetterX mods you want (BetterEnd, BetterNether and so on) to both the server and the clients. Use matching builds on each side.

4.

5. Have each player launch with a NeoForge profile and connect.

If players cannot join

  • Compare the mods folders on the server and a client. Look for a missing or extra file.
  • Read the disconnect message. It often lists the mod that does not match.
  • Check the server console or log at startup for errors that name BCLib or a BetterX mod.
  • Confirm the server is running NeoForge and not Fabric or vanilla.

Keep the server and clients in sync whenever you update any BetterX mod. Mismatches are the most common reason BCLib-based setups fail.
