How to set up zoom and freelook with your own keybinds

Find the keybinds

Zoom and freelook are controlled by key bindings, so you set them up in the normal Controls menu.

1. Open Options > Controls > Key Binds.

2. Scroll to the Axolotl Client category.

3. Find the entries for Zoom and Freelook.

4. Click each one and press the key you want. Choose keys that do not clash with movement, sprint or hotbar slots. Minecraft highlights conflicts in red.

Use and adjust them

  • Zoom: Hold the zoom key to see far away, then release to return to normal view. The mod's config has zoom options. Look there for scroll-wheel zoom or smooth zoom behavior and turn on whatever suits you.
  • Freelook: Hold the freelook key and move the mouse. Your camera turns around your character while your body and movement direction stay the same. This is useful for checking behind you while running or bridging.

If a key does nothing

  • Confirm the key is actually assigned. A key that conflicts with another action can get unbound.
  • Open the Axolotl Client config and check that the zoom or freelook feature is not disabled.
  • If your zoom feels too sensitive, look in the config for the zoom sensitivity or smoothing options, and adjust them in small steps.
