How to make your hits easier to see with hit color and block outlines

Hit color

Hit color tints an enemy when you land a hit, so you get instant confirmation that your attack connected.

1. Open the Axolotl Client config screen (Right Shift by default, or whichever key you set in Controls).

2. Go to the rendering or tweaks category and find the Hit Color option.

3. Enable it.

4. Pick a color that contrasts with the players and mobs you usually fight. A bright color works better than one close to skin or armor tones.

5. Hit a mob or another player to test it.

Custom block outlines

The block outline option changes how the highlight around the block you are looking at is drawn.

1. In the same config, find the Block Outline settings.

2. Enable the custom outline.

3. Set the color and any other style options offered, such as thickness or a changing color.

4. Look at blocks in different lighting, including grass, stone and dark caves, to check that the outline stands out everywhere.

Tips

  • Avoid colors that blend into your usual terrain, such as green on grass.
  • If you use a resource pack that changes the outline, check which one is taking effect, and disable one of them if the result looks wrong.
  • Combine this with Fullbright if you also fight in dark areas.
