Axe Effective Skulls Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I mine skulls faster with this mod?
Hold any axe and break the skull as you would any other block. The mod adds skulls to the blocks axes are effective on, so an axe breaks them faster than your bare hand or a non-axe tool.
Do I need to craft anything or change settings to use the mod?
No. There are no new items or recipes, and the change applies as soon as you load into a world with the mod installed. Just break a skull with an axe.
Which skulls and mob heads can I break with an axe?
The mod covers the vanilla skull and head variants, such as the skeleton skull, wither skeleton skull, zombie head, creeper head, player head and similar. This includes both the floor versions and the wall-mounted versions.
Do skulls drop when I break them with an axe?
Yes. The mod only changes which tool is effective, so the skull should still drop the same item it would normally. If a skull isn't dropping, check that you aren't in a mode or setting that disables block drops.
Why isn't my axe mining skulls any faster?
Check that you're holding an axe and not a pickaxe, shovel or hoe, since only axes are affected. Also make sure the mod is actually loaded in the world you're playing, and that no other mod overrides how skulls are mined.
Does a better axe break skulls faster?
Yes. Axe material still matters, so a stronger axe breaks them faster than a wooden or stone one. Efficiency and haste effects speed it up too, because skulls now follow the normal axe mining rules.
Does this mod make skulls require an axe to drop?
No. It makes axes the effective tool, but it doesn't make an axe mandatory. You can still break skulls with your hand or another tool; it will just be slower.
Is this useful for cleaning up Wither builds or mob head displays?
Yes. If you've got a wall of mob heads or leftover skulls from a Wither setup, an axe lets you clear them quickly instead of breaking each one slowly by hand. Efficiency on the axe helps even more for big displays.
Does the mod affect performance or cause lag?
It shouldn't. It's a lightweight mod that only changes which tool is effective on skulls, and it adds no new blocks, entities or systems that would slow the game.
Will it work with other mods that add skulls or heads?
It's built around the vanilla skull variants, so those are the ones you can count on. Heads added by other mods may or may not be affected, depending on how they're registered, so test one with an axe in-game.
