How to Understand What AutoModpack Downloads and Stay Safe
AutoModpack is convenient but powerful: a server can place arbitrary files into your game folder. Knowing what it does helps you use it safely.
What Gets Synced
AutoModpack syncs the files the server admin has included in the pack — typically mods, configs, and sometimes resource packs or other assets. It pulls mods from sources like CurseForge and Modrinth, and can also serve files hosted by the server itself. On connect, it compares your local files to the server's manifest and downloads only the differences, adding, updating, or removing files as needed.
Why Trust Matters
Because the server controls the file list, it can push any file into your game directory, not just mods. Only join AutoModpack servers whose owners and admins you trust. If you don't trust a server, don't accept the sync.
Staying Safe
- Read the sync screen before confirming — it lists what will be added, changed, or removed.
- Prefer a separate game profile/instance for AutoModpack servers so your main setup isn't altered.
- Keep backups of important worlds and configs.
- If a server pushes something unexpected, disconnect and decline.
Practical Habit
Treat an AutoModpack server like installing its modpack: verify the source, then let it manage updates automatically afterward.
