How to change which blocks and mobs give XP in a skill

Find the sources files

AuraSkills keeps XP sources in its plugin folder, in a sources directory with one file per skill (for example, one for Mining and one for Farming). Open the file for the skill you want to change.

Each entry names a source and defines its type, the target (a block or mob), and the XP it gives. Copy an existing entry as a template so the structure stays valid.

Add or edit a source

1. Stop editing live files without a backup. Copy the file first.

2. Open the skill's sources file in a text editor. Use spaces only, since YAML breaks with tabs.

3. Duplicate a similar entry, such as another block in the Mining file.

4. Change the block or mob it targets to the one you want.

5. Set the XP value to what suits your server. Compare it with existing entries so the new one is balanced.

6. Save the file and run /skills reload in-game, or restart the server.

7. Test by performing the action and watching your XP gain.

Troubleshooting

  • No XP after reload: check the console for YAML errors. Indentation is the usual cause.
  • Wrong name: use valid Minecraft block or entity names as they appear in the existing entries.
  • Custom items or blocks: these are supported in sources, but follow the format of the plugin's documentation for them.

To remove a source, delete its entry or ask the config to ignore it, then reload.
