How to set different speeds for player, mob and empty carts
You can give each kind of cart its own speed, for example fast for players and gentle for mob transport.
The gamerules
/gamerule minecartMaxSpeedPlayerRider <value>sets the speed of carts a player is riding./gamerule minecartMaxSpeedOtherRider <value>sets the speed of carts carrying mobs or other entities, such as villagers or animals./gamerule minecartMaxSpeedEmptyRider <value>sets the speed of empty rideable carts, such as ones you send off to a station.
Run any of them without a value to see what is currently set.
Steps
1. Set your base speed with /gamerule minecartMaxSpeed <value>.
2. Decide which cart types need to differ. A common setup is a high player speed and a lower mob speed, so passengers aren't flung around corners.
3. Run the matching gamerule with your chosen number.
4. Test each case: ride a cart yourself, load a mob into one, and send an empty cart down the same track.
5. Adjust each value until all three behave the way you want.
Tips
- Empty carts are often used for automated returns, so a moderate empty-cart speed can keep your station systems predictable.
- If a cart type doesn't seem to change speed, check that the gamerule name is spelled exactly as above. The names are case-sensitive.
