Choosing the Right Wood Type for Your Cart

Astikor Carts TFC offers carts in dozens of wood types — Acacia through Willow — and the choice matters more than cosmetics suggest.

What Actually Differs

Functionally, all carts of a given class (Animal vs Hand) behave the same regardless of wood. The differences are:

  • Appearance — matching your base's aesthetic.
  • Recipe cost — rarer TFC woods like Ironwood, Ebony-like species, or Kapok may require harder-to-source planks.
  • Availability — if you have a Baobab grove but no Oak nearby, craft Baobab.

Picking for Your World

Look at what trees actually grow near your base. In TFC, tree distribution is biome-locked, so your local species is almost always the cheapest option. If you are building a themed settlement, match the cart to your buildings — a Douglas Fir cart beside a Douglas Fir cabin looks intentional.

Mixing Types

Nothing stops you from owning several. Keep an Oak Animal Cart for hauling and a matching Hand Cart for detail work. Wood type does not affect speed, capacity, or durability in any way I am aware of — treat it purely as flavor and cost.

Practical Note

If you are short on a specific plank, do not grind for it. Any cart of the correct class will do the job; swap later once your lumber supply catches up.
