How to Build With Vertical Slabs in Ascended Quark
Placing Vertical Slabs
Vertical slabs occupy half of a block's footprint instead of half its height, letting you create thin walls, pillars, and trim that normal slabs cannot. Place one against the side of a block to orient it, then stack more on top to build a continuous vertical panel. Because they are directional, the face you click determines which half of the block they fill, so rotate your view before placing if the result looks wrong.
Combining With Stairs and Walls
Use vertical slabs as the vertical counterpart to regular stairs. A stair placed on top of a vertical slab gives you a clean corner transition for railings and roof edges. Pair them with the matching wall block (for example Icestone Brick Wall with Icestone Brick Vertical Slab) to build fences that read as solid masonry rather than open lattice. For Aether-themed builds, Aether Dirt Brick Vertical Slab and Holystone Vertical Slab blend naturally with their full-block and stair variants, so keep a stack of each on hand when detailing a structure.
Practical Tips
- Vertical slabs do not merge with full blocks the way horizontal slabs do, so plan gaps deliberately.
- Use them to hide redstone wiring or lighting behind a thin facade.
- Mix polished and brick variants (Polished Icestone Slab versus Icestone Brick Slab) for subtle texture contrast on the same wall.
