Ascended Quark FAQ
20 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Ascended Quark?
Break into the Aether and gather its base materials — skyroot logs, holystone, icestone, and ambrosium — since almost every block and item in this mod is built from those. Once you have a crafting table and some skyroot planks, you can start crafting the vertical slabs, hedges, and other decorative blocks.
How do vertical slabs work and how do I place them?
Vertical slabs occupy half of a block's side face rather than the top or bottom, letting you build thin walls and columns. Place them against a block face like a normal slab, and they'll orient to that side; you can stack and combine them with regular slabs and stairs for detailed shapes.
What's the difference between a hedge and a leaf carpet?
Hedges are full-height blocks made from skyroot logs and leaves that act as decorative walls or fences, while leaf carpets are thin, flat layers you place on top of blocks like a carpet. Both come in variants matching the Aether's leaf types, such as crystal, golden oak, and holiday.
How do I make a crate and what does it do?
Crates are crafted from skyroot planks and store items or mobs in a compact block form. The

You can scoop up a Swet with an empty bucket to get a Swet In A Bucket, and there are separate skyroot bucket variants. The bucket preserves the mob so you can carry it, release it elsewhere, or store it safely — skyroot buckets are the Aether-themed equivalent of iron buckets.
How do I light my build with Ambrosium Torches and Lamps?
Ambrosium Torches are crafted like normal torches but use ambrosium instead of coal, giving a warm glow. Ambrosium Lamps are full blocks that emit light and can be placed as decorative light sources — useful for ceilings and floors where torches look out of place.
What can I build with Icestone and Holystone?
Icestone and Holystone each have brick, polished, slab, stair, wall, and vertical slab variants, so you can build full architectural sets.

Polished Icestone give cool blue tones, while Holystone Bricks and Mossy Holystone Vertical Slabs give the classic Aether stone look.

Phoenix Flamerang work?
The
Phoenix Flamerang is a throwable weapon that returns to you like a boomerang after hitting a target. It deals fire damage on impact, so it's effective against mobs weak to fire — throw it and catch it to reuse.

Hedges and leaf carpets only connect to compatible blocks of the same type or material — a crystal hedge won't merge with a golden oak hedge. Make sure you're using matching variants and placing them adjacent to solid blocks rather than air.
Does Ascended Quark work with other Aether mods and is it performance-heavy?
Ascended Quark is designed as an add-on to the Aether, so it works alongside the base Aether mod and most Aether-themed add-ons. It only adds decorative blocks and a few items, so performance impact is minimal — the main cost comes from having many vertical slabs and hedges rendered at once.
