How to Put Items Into an Armor Stand's Hands

Prerequisites

An armor stand can only hold items in its hands if it has arms enabled. If your stand has no arms, shift-click it, open the Armor Poser GUI, and turn the arms property on first.

Placing Items in the Hands

The Armor Poser GUI includes slots for the armor stand's equipment, including the two hand slots. With the GUI open, click an item from your inventory into the main-hand or off-hand slot, exactly like moving items in a chest. The item appears in the stand's hand immediately.

You can also swap items the vanilla way: with arms enabled, right-click the stand while holding the item to place it directly into the hand, and right-click again to take it back.

Posing the Arms Around the Item

After the item is in the hand, use the arm rotation controls in the same GUI to angle the arm so the item is held the way you want — a sword raised, a torch forward, a tool resting at the side. Because the pose and the held item are both stored on the stand, the display stays exactly as you set it.

Tips

  • Combine hand items with a hidden base plate for clean statue builds.
  • Use the off-hand slot for shields, lanterns, or maps.
  • If an item will not go in, check that arms are enabled and that you are clicking the correct hand slot.
