Areas Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make my first area?
Place a sign on the ground and write the area name on the first line, then the radius on the second line. Once the sign is placed, the area is created and you'll get a notification when you enter it.
What do I write on the sign to set the radius?
Put the area name on the top line and a number for the radius on the second line. The radius is measured in blocks from the sign, and you can use any value you want.
Why isn't my area working after I place the sign?
Make sure the sign has the area name on the first line and a valid number on the second line, and that you're standing within the radius. If the sign text is wrong or the radius is missing, the area won't be created.
How do I change the color of the area notification?
Add a color code to the area name or message on the sign using the standard formatting codes. The color you set will be used for the entry and exit messages.
Can I customize the entry and exit messages?
Yes, you can set custom messages with prefixes and suffixes by editing the sign lines. The mod lets you define exactly what text appears when a player enters or leaves the area.
How do I make a non-circular or complex area?
Create multiple overlapping areas with signs to build complex shapes. The mod combines them, so the final region is the union of all the areas you define.
Do other players need the mod installed on a server?
Yes, for the areas to work on a multiplayer server, every player must have the mod installed. Without it, they won't see the notifications or be able to interact with the areas.
Can I make the notifications appear in chat instead of the HUD?
Yes, there's a config option to choose whether notifications show in the HUD or in chat. You can switch between them based on your preference.
How do I set a default area size?
Use the mod's configuration to set a default radius for new areas. This way, when you place a sign without specifying a radius, it will use the default value.
Does this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod is very lightweight and only checks player positions against defined areas. It shouldn't cause noticeable performance issues even with many areas.
