Arcane Overgrowth FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using Necro spells?
Find or craft a spellbook that contains Necro spells, then equip it in your spell slots. Necro spells focus on curses, debuffs, and damage over time effects, so they work best when you layer multiple spells on enemies rather than dealing burst damage. Start with basic Necro spells and upgrade to stronger ones as you find better spellbooks.
What's the difference between Arch and Hybrid armor tiers?
Arch tier armor gives stronger bonuses if you focus all your spells on a single magic school, while Hybrid tier combines stats from two compatible schools for more versatile builds. Choose Arch if you want to specialize deeply in one school, or Hybrid if you want to mix spells from different schools without losing effectiveness.
Where do I find the new ores for upgrading gear?
The five new ores spawn throughout the Overworld at various depths, similar to vanilla ore distribution. Mine them with appropriate tools and bring them to an upgrade station or crafting interface to enhance your magic gear's stats.
How do I prepare for fights against spellcasting mobs?
Spellcasting hostile mobs cast their own spells during combat, so equip armor with defensive magic stats and bring spells that can interrupt or counter their attacks. Positioning and movement are important—try to stay out of their spell ranges while you cast your own spells.
Can I use this mod without Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
No, Arcane Overgrowth is an extension mod that requires Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks to be installed first. It adds content on top of that mod's existing spell system and mechanics.
What do the new accessories do?
The ten new accessories provide various bonuses to spell power, mana regeneration, or defensive stats depending on which one you equip. You now have an extra accessory slot compared to the base mod, so you can equip more accessories simultaneously.
Are there new structures I should look for?
Yes, two new structures generate across the Overworld that contain loot, spellbooks, and resources. Explore the world to find them—they're designed to reward exploration and contain valuable gear.
How do Necro curses and debuffs stack?
You can apply multiple Necro effects to the same enemy, and they typically stack in duration or intensity. Experiment with combining different Necro spells to maximize damage over time and control effects.
Should I use weapons or just spells for combat?
The mod adds over 30 weapons with custom magic combat skills, so they're viable alternatives or complements to pure spellcasting. Many weapons have special abilities tied to magic schools, so try different combinations to find your preferred playstyle.
Can I mix spells from different schools in one loadout?
Yes, but you'll get better results if you focus on compatible schools—this is where Hybrid tier armor shines by combining bonuses from two schools. Pure mixed builds are possible but less optimized than specialized loadouts.
