How to Save XP When Combining Two Enchanted Books With the Swap Button

Combining two enchanted books can cost different amounts of XP depending on which book sits in which anvil slot. Anvil Swapper checks this for you.

Steps

1. Open an anvil and place the first book in the left slot.

2. Place the second book in the right slot.

3. Read the XP cost shown on the result.

4. Look at the swap button in the anvil screen. If it glows, swapping the two items gives the same result for less XP.

5. Click the glowing button. The mod moves the items to the opposite slots for you.

6. Check that the cost has dropped, then take the result as normal.

Things to Know

• You don't need to pick the items up and move them by hand. The button does it in one click.
• The result is the same. Only the XP price changes.
• If the button doesn't glow, your current arrangement is already the cheapest, so go ahead and combine.
• Make a habit of looking at the button every time you set up a combine, especially with high-level books. The higher the enchantment levels, the more a swap can save.
