Anvil Swapper Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
What does the Anvil Swapper button actually do?
It adds a swap button to the anvil screen that exchanges the items in the two input slots. When the swapped order gives the same result for less XP, the button glows.
How do I use the swap button?
Put your two items in the anvil and look at the button. If it glows, click it and the mod swaps the item positions for you. Then take the output as usual.
Why isn't the swap button glowing?
The button only glows when reversing the slots would make the combination cheaper. If the current order is already the cheapest, or the swap wouldn't lower the cost, it stays unlit. Nothing is wrong with the mod in that case.
Does swapping the items change the enchantment result?
No. The mod is meant to give you the same combined result for a lower XP cost. Only the order of the items changes.
Why would swapping items in an anvil cost less XP?
The anvil's cost depends on which item is in which slot. A higher-ranking enchantment in the first slot can cost more to combine with a cheaper one in the second than the reverse order would.
Do I have to click the button every time I use an anvil?
No. It's optional, and you can still move items between the slots by hand. The button saves you from guessing which order is cheaper, because the glow tells you when swapping helps.
Is the swap button useful when combining two enchanted books?
Yes, that's one of the best uses. Combining books is where slot order most often changes the XP cost. Check for the glow before you take the result.
Can swapping help me avoid the "Too Expensive!" message?
It can help, because a swap that lowers the cost may bring a combination back into what the anvil will accept. If the button isn't glowing, swapping won't reduce the cost, so you'll need to rethink the combination or the order of your steps.
Does the button show up on every anvil screen, even with just one item?
The button belongs to the anvil screen, but a swap only makes sense when there are two items to exchange. With a single item, such as a plain rename, there's nothing to reverse, so don't expect it to glow.
The swap button isn't showing up on my server. What should I check?
First confirm the mod is actually loaded in your game, and on a multiplayer server check whether the server needs it too. Also make sure you're looking at a real anvil screen, since the button only appears there. The mod only affects the anvil GUI, so it shouldn't interfere with anything else in your game.
