Preparing to Tame

Before approaching a wild hippo, gather food items it will accept: wheat, grass, apples, melon slices, or other vegetables. Bring a substantial stack—taming requires multiple feedings.

The Taming Process

1. Approach the hippo slowly and carefully

2. Do not stay too close for extended periods—wild hippos become territorial and will attack if you linger

3. Right-click the hippo with your food item to feed it

4. Repeat feeding until the hippo is tamed (you'll see a visual indicator)

5. Back away and give the hippo space between feedings

Important Safety Tips

Taming takes patience—rushing will trigger a rampage. Once tamed, the hippo will no longer attack you for being nearby, though it may still randomly attack unless you've disabled that feature in the mod configuration.

Tamed hippos require regular feeding to keep them calm and prevent random attacks.
