Animal Garden Hippopotamus Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Where do hippos spawn?
Hippos spawn naturally in savanna biomes, usually in groups. You can also use the Hippopotamus Spawn Egg from the creative inventory to place them wherever you want.
What do I need to tame a hippo?
Hold wheat, grass, apples, melon slices, or other vegetables and approach the hippo carefully. Feed it by right-clicking until it's tamed—you'll see a visual indicator when it becomes your pet.
Why did my tamed hippo attack me?
Tamed hippos can randomly decide to attack you, which is normal behavior for this mod. Feed them to calm them down, or disable random attacks entirely in the mod's configuration settings.
How do I breed hippos?
You need two tamed hippos of opposite genders in the water together. They'll breed on their own when conditions are right, producing a baby hippo.
What are the three pet modes and how do I use them?
Your tamed hippos can wander freely, rest in one spot, or follow you around. You can switch between these modes by interacting with your hippo—check your mod's keybinds or right-click to cycle through modes.
How close can I get to a wild hippo before it attacks?
Wild hippos become territorial and attack if you stand too close for too long. Back away and give them space to avoid triggering a rampage.
Do hippos need water to survive?
Hippos search for water during the day to cool down and will travel to find it. They also breed only when in water, so having a water source nearby is important for keeping them healthy and happy.
Can I find bigger hippos?
Yes, larger male hippos spawn rarely in the wild and are much more impressive than standard hippos. Keep exploring to find these rarer variants.
How do I stop my hippos from attacking randomly?
Open the mod's configuration file and set `can_attack_randomly` to false, or adjust the `random_attack_chance` value to make attacks less frequent.
Can I change how many hippos spawn in a group?
Yes, the mod's configuration lets you adjust minimum and maximum group sizes so you can control how many hippos appear together in the wild.
