How to Apply a Trim to Horse Armor
Getting Set Up
To trim horse armor, you need three things: the piece of horse armor you want to decorate, an armor trim smithing template, and the trim material (the mineral or ingot that determines the trim's color). You also need a smithing table. Place the smithing table down and right-click it to open the smithing interface.
Applying the Trim
In the smithing table, place the horse armor in the left slot, the smithing template in the middle slot, and the trim material in the right slot. The output slot will show the trimmed horse armor. Take it out to finish. The process mirrors vanilla armor trimming exactly, so if you have trimmed player armor before, this will feel identical.
Once trimmed, put the armor on your horse by opening the horse's inventory (right-click while holding the armor or use the saddle screen) and placing it in the armor slot. The trim pattern and color will render on the horse's armor. Different templates produce different patterns, and different materials produce different colors, so you can mix and match to get a unique look. If you want to change the trim later, you can apply a new template and material over the existing one.
