Animal Armor Trims Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I apply a trim to horse armor?
Put the horse armor, a smithing template, and the trim material in a smithing table, just like you would for player armor. The trimmed armor keeps its original protection and gains the trim pattern and color.
How do I apply a trim to wolf armor?
Use a smithing table with the wolf armor, a smithing template, and a trim material in the same layout as player armor trims. The result is wolf armor with the chosen pattern and material color.
Can I apply trims to both horse and wolf armor with the same template?
Yes, the same smithing template and trim material work on both horse armor and wolf armor. You just need one template and one material per piece of armor you trim.
Do I need to find smithing templates in the world, or can I craft them?
You obtain smithing templates the same way as in vanilla, from structures like trail ruins, bastions, and other loot sources depending on the template. They are not crafted from scratch; you duplicate them with the appropriate materials at a smithing table.
Does the trim change the armor's stats or protection?
No, trims are purely cosmetic. The armor keeps the same protection value and durability it had before the trim was applied.
Can I remove a trim once I've applied it?
There is no built-in way to remove a trim in the mod. You would need to obtain a fresh, untrimmed piece of armor and apply a different trim to that.
Why isn't my smithing table accepting the horse armor?
Make sure you are using the correct slot layout: armor in the armor slot, template in the template slot, and trim material in the material slot. If the armor already has a trim, it cannot be trimmed again.
Does this mod work on servers and with other armor mods?
It works on servers if the mod is installed on both the client and server. Compatibility with other armor mods depends on whether those mods use the vanilla armor trim system; mods that add custom armor types may not be supported.
Will trimmed animal armor cause lag or performance issues?
No, trims are lightweight cosmetic data and do not add noticeable performance impact. The mod only changes rendering and does not add complex tick logic.
Do villagers or other players see the trim on my horse or wolf?
Yes, trims are visible to all players who have the mod installed and can see the animal. Players without the mod will see the armor as untrimmed.
