Fixing Common Animal Armor Trim Problems
The Trim Won't Apply
If the smithing table output slot stays empty, check each slot. The template must be a valid armor trim smithing template, the middle slot must contain that template, and the third slot must contain a material the table accepts. Animal armor goes in the first slot. If any slot is wrong, nothing will craft. Also confirm you are using horse or wolf armor and not a different animal's armor, since the mod only supports those two.
The Trim Doesn't Show on the Animal
If the armor is trimmed but the animal looks plain, make sure the trimmed armor is actually equipped in the animal's armor slot. For horses, open the horse inventory and place it in the armor slot. For wolves, right-click the wolf with the armor in hand. If the animal already had armor, you may need to remove the old piece first.
Changing or Removing a Trim
You cannot remove a trim to get a plain piece back through the smithing table — applying a new template and material simply overwrites the old trim. To revert to untrimmed armor, you would need a fresh, untrimmed piece of armor. Keep spare untrimmed armor on hand if you like to experiment with different looks.
