How to Assign Two Actions to the Same Key with Amecs

The Overlapping-Binding Feature

Vanilla Minecraft refuses to let one key trigger two different actions. Amecs removes that restriction, so you can deliberately stack bindings — for example, having a plain key do one thing and a modified version of the same key do another, or letting two separate actions share a key when you know they won't fire at the same moment.

Setting It Up

1. Go to Options → Controls → Key Binds.

2. Find the first action and assign your key (say R).

3. Find the second action and assign the same key, or a combination built on it (Shift + R).

4. If a red conflict warning appears, that's expected — Amecs permits the overlap, but you should confirm the two actions won't fight each other in practice.

When Overlapping Is Safe

  • Different contexts: an action that only matters in a GUI versus one used in-world.
  • Modifier separation: R for one thing, Shift + R for another — the modifier keeps them distinct.
  • Rarely used actions: two low-frequency bindings sharing a key is usually harmless.

Avoid stacking two actions that both trigger on the same press in the same context, since both will fire and the result may be unpredictable.
