How to Make Grass and Foliage Colors Change Based on Biome

Understanding How the Mod Colors the World

Ambient Environment Mod recolors grass, foliage, and water by reading the biome the block sits in and applying a tint that matches that biome's climate and identity. You do not place any special blocks or craft anything to get this effect — it happens automatically once the mod is loaded. The key thing to understand is that the color is tied to the biome, not to the individual block, so the same grass block will look different depending on where it is placed.

Getting the Effect to Show Up

1. Load into a world that has multiple biomes close together, such as a plains area bordering a swamp, jungle, or savanna.

2. Walk across the biome border and watch the grass and leaves shift tint as you cross.

3. If colors look flat or unchanged, check that no other resource pack or biome-color mod is overriding the grass and foliage colormaps, since those files control the same visuals.

4. Place a few grass blocks and leaves from one biome into another and compare them side by side to confirm the biome-based tinting is active.

5. For water, stand at the edge of an ocean, river, or swamp and look at the surface color — it should differ noticeably between them.

The mod is purely cosmetic, so nothing about growth, drops, or mob behavior changes when colors shift.
