Ambient Environment Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know Ambient Environment Mod is actually working?
Walk between two different biomes and watch the grass, leaves, and water tint shift as you cross the border. If colors stay identical everywhere, the mod isn't applying, so check that it's enabled for your world.
Do I need to configure anything to get started?
No, the mod works out of the box once installed. Colors are applied automatically based on the biome you're standing in, so you can just load a world and explore.
Does this mod change how grass or water actually behaves?
No, it's purely cosmetic. Block behavior, growth, water physics, and all gameplay mechanics stay exactly the same as vanilla.
Why does the color change look sudden instead of smooth when I cross a biome?
Color transitions follow biome borders, so they can snap when the boundary is sharp. Blending depends on how the biome edges are generated in your world rather than a mod setting.
Will this mod work with shaders?
It can, but shader packs often apply their own biome tinting, which may override or conflict with the mod's colors. If colors look wrong, try disabling the shader's biome color option or test without shaders first.
Can I use resource packs that change grass or foliage textures with this mod?
Yes, texture packs and this mod affect different things, so they generally stack fine. A pack changes the texture image, while the mod changes the tint applied on top of it.
Does Ambient Environment Mod work on a server or with friends?
It's a client-side visual mod, so each player needs it installed to see the biome colors themselves. Players without it will just see normal vanilla colors.
Will this mod hurt my FPS or performance?
It's a lightweight cosmetic mod, so performance impact is minimal on most systems. If you notice stuttering, it's more likely from shaders or other mods running alongside it.
Why is only my grass changing color but not the water or leaves?
Different blocks are tinted separately, and some may be affected by other mods or resource packs overriding them. Check for conflicting mods that also touch water or foliage colors.
Can I turn the biome coloring off for certain areas or biomes?
The mod applies coloring globally based on biome, so there's no per-biome toggle in normal use. If you want vanilla colors back, you'd disable the mod rather than adjust individual biomes.
