How to Plan a Storage Upgrade Path in AE2 Extras
Start Small, Scale Up
AE2 Extras tiers (1k, 4k, 16k, 64k, 256k, then 1m, 4m, 16m, 64m) let you grow storage gradually. Jumping straight to the top wastes components you could spend on other infrastructure.
A Practical Progression
1. Early game: use 1k and 4k cells for general items; add a small fluid cell if you automate liquids.
2. Mid game: move bulk resources into 16k or 64k Mono cells and keep standard cells for variety.
3. Late game: upgrade to 1m+ cells for mass storage, and add large Crafting Storage for big jobs.
4. End game: 16m and 64m cells plus matching Crafting Storage handle factory-scale production.
Component Economy
- Each tier requires the matching ME Storage Component, which is crafted from lower-tier components.
- Craft components in batches so you always have spares for new cells.
- Recycle old cells by pulling them from drives once contents are moved.
Drive Layout
- Reserve a few bays for Mono cells of your top bulk resources.
- Keep general cells for mixed storage.
- Leave empty bays for Portable Cells you're charging or swapping.
