How to Pick Between Mono and Standard AE2 Extras Cells

The Core Difference

Standard ME Storage Cells hold many different item or fluid types, dividing capacity among them. Mono cells from AE2 Extras lock to a single type, giving you much higher density for that one resource. Choosing correctly saves components and drive slots.

When to Use Mono Cells

  • Cobblestone, gravel, sand, or other farm outputs you generate in bulk.
  • A single fluid like lava or water that you store in huge quantities.
  • Any resource where you never need variety in that cell.

When to Use Standard Cells

  • General loot storage where types change constantly.
  • Early game when you can't predict what you'll collect.
  • Networks where drive bays are plentiful but components are scarce.

How to Set Them Up

1. Craft the Mono cell tier matching your resource volume.

2. Insert the target item or fluid into the Mono cell to lock it.

3. Place it in an ME Drive; it will reject anything else.

4. Keep a standard cell nearby for overflow of other types.

Mixing both types in one drive is the most efficient long-term setup.
