Fix an item that still seems to lose durability
If an item you expected to be unbreakable is still wearing down, work through these checks.
Check the item
1. Hover over it and look for Unbreaking in the tooltip. If it is missing, the item does not have the enchantment. It may just have the enchanted glint from something else.
2. Turn on advanced tooltips with F3 + H and note the durability. Use the item for a while and see whether the number changes.
3. Make sure you did not take the wrong output at the anvil. Compare the result with your original item before you pick it up.
Check the setup
- Mod loaded: Open your mod list from the main menu and confirm Actually Unbreaking is there. Without it, Unbreaking behaves like vanilla and only slows wear.
- Multiplayer: Durability is handled by the game logic, so on a server make sure the mod is installed on the server as well as your own game.
- Item types: The mod affects things that can receive the Unbreaking enchantment. An item that cannot take Unbreaking in vanilla won't be covered.
Other causes
- Durability may drop because you repaired or combined items. This is not wear.
- If the item is actually being destroyed, such as by fire, lava or a cactus, that is not durability loss, and Unbreaking does not stop it.
