Actually Unbreaking Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make my tools and armor unbreakable with this mod?
Put the Unbreaking enchantment on the item, for example by combining it with an Unbreaking book at an anvil. Once the item has Unbreaking, it should stop losing durability.
Does the Unbreaking level matter with Actually Unbreaking?
The mod's aim is that any item with the Unbreaking enchantment has infinite durability, so you shouldn't need to chase a higher level. Level I should be enough to get the effect.
What items does the mod work on?
It applies to tools, weapons and armor with Unbreaking, and to pretty much anything else that the enchantment can be applied to. If an item can normally receive Unbreaking, it should become unbreakable.
How can I test that the infinite durability actually works?
Wear an armor piece with Unbreaking and stand next to a lit TNT, then check the durability bar afterward. The armor should take the hit without its durability going down.
Where do I get Unbreaking in survival?
You can use the vanilla methods: an enchanting table, enchanted books found in loot, or trading with villagers. The mod doesn't add a new way to get the enchantment; it only changes what the enchantment does.
My item with Unbreaking still seems to lose durability. Why?
First check that the item actually has the Unbreaking enchantment in its tooltip, since a failed anvil combination or a different enchantment is a common cause. Also make sure the mod is loaded and that the item is not an already-damaged one you are judging by an old durability reading.
Do I need to put Unbreaking on items that are already damaged?
You can enchant a damaged item and it should stop getting worse from then on. The mod stops further loss rather than repairing damage, so use a repair method such as an anvil or Mending if you want durability back.
Does this mod make Mending unnecessary?
For items with Unbreaking, mostly yes, since they no longer wear down. Mending is only useful for restoring damage the item took before it had Unbreaking.
Can I still combine Unbreaking with other enchantments?
Yes, you can use the anvil as normal to combine Unbreaking with other enchantments such as Efficiency or Protection. The mod changes only what Unbreaking does, not how enchanting works.
Will this mod affect performance or conflict with other mods?
It only changes how the Unbreaking enchantment behaves, so it shouldn't have a noticeable performance cost. Mods that change durability or the Unbreaking enchantment themselves could conflict, so remove one of them if durability behaves oddly.
