Abyssal Forge Alloys FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start with Abyssal Forge Alloys if I'm new to the mod?
Begin by exploring the six underground biomes from Alex's Caves to locate ore deposits of each endgame material. You'll need Tinkers' Construct installed and a basic understanding of tool building, since this mod adds materials to that system rather than creating standalone tools. Start with whichever biome is most accessible to you—Byzantium Neodymium in Magnetic Caves is often easiest to reach first.
What's the difference between these materials and regular Tinkers' Construct metals?
Abyssal Forge Alloys materials are endgame-only and come with unique custom traits tied to specific mechanics: teleportation, boss-gating, environmental hazards, material copying, marked target strikes, and hunger-based durability preservation. Regular Tinkers' metals don't have these specialized traits.
Do I need to fight Luxtructiosaurus to get Tectellus?
Yes—
Tectellus ore only drops while the Luxtructiosaurus boss is alive in the Primordial Caves. Once you defeat the boss, the ore becomes unobtainable in that world, so gather what you need before finishing the fight.

Element 122 requires either a nuclear explosion or a Tremorzilla beam to break—standard mining tools won't work. You'll need to trigger one of these environmental events near the ore blocks to successfully harvest them.
What does the chest-linking trait on Byzantium Neodymium actually do?
When you build a tool with Byzantium Neodymium and link it to a storage chest, mined blocks teleport directly into that chest instead of dropping on the ground. This eliminates the need to manually collect items while mining.
Can I combine traits from multiple materials into one tool?
Yes—Aurichalcum is specifically designed for this, allowing you to smelt it from Atlantean Ruins ore and use it to grant traits from two other Abyssal Forge Alloys materials onto a single tool.
How does the hunger-based durability protection work with Gumbronze?
Gumbronze (created by blending Amethyst Bronze with
Earthen Gum) prevents durability loss completely when your hunger bar is full or near full. Once hunger drops significantly, durability loss resumes normally.

Yes—since Abyssal Forge Alloys extends Tinkers' Construct rather than replacing it, other addons should work alongside it. However, always check mod compatibility lists if you experience issues with specific addon combinations.
Do I need to visit all six biomes, or can I skip some materials?
You can focus on whichever materials suit your playstyle, but Aurichalcum requires ore from other materials to be useful, so you'll need at least some variety. Skipping entire biomes is possible but limits your tool customization options.
What happens if I die while carrying tools with linked chests?
Your tools drop like normal items, but the chest-linking trait persists—when you pick the tool back up and use it, mined blocks will still teleport to the linked chest. The link survives death.
