6 Stairs Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I craft 6 stairs from 6 blocks?
Use the normal stair pattern in the crafting grid, with blocks filling the staircase shape as in vanilla. With the pack active, the result is 6 stairs, one per block used, instead of the vanilla 4.
How do I check that the 6 Stairs Data Pack is active in my world?
Run /datapack list in the world. The pack should appear under the enabled data packs. If it only appears under available, run /datapack enable on it, then /reload.
My stairs still craft in batches of 4, what's wrong?
The pack is most likely not enabled in that specific world, so check with /datapack list. If it is enabled, run /reload. Also check that another data pack isn't overriding the same stair recipes.
Can I add the data pack to a world I've already started?
Yes. Data packs are applied per world, so enable it in that world and run /reload. Afterwards the stair recipes use the 6-stair output. Stairs you already crafted are unchanged.
How many blocks do I need for a big staircase?
Each block you spend gives you one stair, so the number of stairs you need equals the number of blocks to craft. Round up to the nearest 6 if you craft only in full recipe batches, and any extras are just spare stairs.
Does it work in multiplayer or on a server?
The data pack has to be enabled in the world the server runs, since recipes are handled on the server side. Enable it there and reload. Each player can then check with the crafting table that they get 6 stairs.
Does it change the stonecutter recipes?
No, the pack is about the crafting-grid recipe. The stonecutter already gives one stair per block in vanilla, so it doesn't need changing.
Does it work for every type of stairs, including modded ones?
It's meant for the stair recipes it covers, so test each type by crafting it. Stairs added by other mods may keep their own recipe unless the pack also covers them.
Is it compatible with other data packs?
Yes, unless two packs change the same stair recipe. In that case only one wins, depending on pack order. Check the order in /datapack list and move or disable the conflicting pack.
Does the pack hurt performance, and can I turn it off?
It only changes recipes, so you shouldn't notice any performance effect. To turn it off, run /datapack disable on it and /reload, and stairs go back to 4 per craft.
