How to Set Up Model Permissions and Sync Models on a Server

Why Server-Side Setup Matters

Yes Steve Model is built for servers. When a vanilla client joins, the server pushes the models to that player automatically, so nobody needs to install anything to see custom models. All transferred model files are encrypted binaries, which prevents players from extracting and stealing the original model assets.

Granting Model Permissions

Models support per-model authorization. As an operator:

1. Place the models you want available into the server's model directory.

2. Use the mod's permission commands to mark a model as public or restricted. Public models can be selected by anyone; restricted models only apply for players you explicitly authorize.

3. Authorize individual players by name or UUID for the private models they are allowed to use.

4. Reload or restart so the server re-scans the model folder and rebuilds its permission list.

What Players Experience

A player opens the model menu, sees only the models they are permitted to use, picks one, and the server syncs the encrypted files to their client on the fly. If a player reports a model missing, check three things: the model is in the server folder, the player has permission, and the client finished downloading before they tried to apply it. Large model packs take a moment to transfer on first join.
