How to Zoom Without a Spyglass (and When to Still Use One)

What WI Zoom Replaces

A vanilla spyglass gives you a fixed zoom and occupies a hand slot. WI Zoom gives you adjustable magnification from the keyboard at any time, with no item required. For most scouting tasks you can leave the spyglass in a chest.

Steps to Zoom Item-Free

1. Make sure WI Zoom is loaded and the zoom key is bound (check Options → Controls).

2. With empty hands or any tool equipped, press and hold the zoom key.

3. Scroll to set magnification.

4. Release to return to normal view. No item is consumed, no durability is lost, and nothing is equipped.

When a Spyglass Is Still Better

• Multiplayer servers that disallow client-side zoom mods — a spyglass works on vanilla clients and is not flagged.
• Sharing a view — you cannot hand someone your mod zoom, but you can hand them a spyglass.
• Immersive/roleplay playthroughs where you deliberately restrict yourself to vanilla tools.

Caveats

• Zooming does not reveal chunks the server has not sent to you; distant terrain may still be unloaded or fogged depending on render distance.
• Zoom does not let you interact with blocks at range — it is a camera effect only, so you still need to walk over to mine or place anything.
