Adjust Shadow Quality and Distance

Access Shader Settings

Open the shader options menu by pressing the designated key (usually accessed through your shader menu or video settings). Look for shadow-related sliders and toggles.

Configure Shadow Parameters

You'll find controls for:

  • Shadow Distance: Determines how far shadows render from your character. Lower values improve performance; higher values show shadows across larger terrain areas.
  • Shadow Resolution: Controls shadow map detail. Higher settings create crisper, more defined shadows but demand more GPU power.
  • Soft Shadow Amount: Adjusts the blur and softness of shadow edges. Increase for cinematic softness, decrease for sharper definition.

Performance vs. Quality

If you experience lag, reduce shadow distance first—this has the biggest performance impact. Next, lower shadow resolution. Keep soft shadows enabled; they're computationally lighter than hard shadows and match this shader's design philosophy.

Test Your Changes

After adjusting, stand near trees, buildings, or terrain with varied elevation. Watch how shadows behave during sunrise and sunset when they're most visible. Fine-tune until you find your balance between visual quality and smooth gameplay.
