Reading Health Values Under Player Nametags

Understanding the Heart Display

When the data pack is active, every player in your world will display their current health directly beneath their nametag. This makes it easy to assess teammate or opponent condition at a glance without opening menus.

Heart Color Guide

Red hearts represent full health points. Each full heart equals 2 health.

Darker red or dimmed hearts indicate half-hearts—these appear when a player has taken damage but hasn't lost a full heart yet. A darker heart represents 1 health point.

Yellow hearts show absorption from golden apples or enchanted golden apples. These act as temporary extra health that depletes first when damage is taken.

Reading in Combat

During PvP or team battles, glance at nearby players' nametags to quickly determine who needs healing or who poses the greatest threat. A player showing mostly half-hearts is more vulnerable than one with full red hearts. Yellow absorption hearts indicate recent golden apple consumption, suggesting the player has prepared defensively.

This real-time information helps coordinate team strategies without breaking focus or opening inventory screens.
