Distinguishing Full Hearts from Half Hearts
Visual Difference
The data pack uses color and shading to differentiate between full and half hearts. Full red hearts appear bright and solid, representing complete health points. Half hearts display in a darker or muted red tone, making them visually distinct even at a distance.
Counting Health Accurately
When assessing a player's condition, count the bright red hearts first—these represent full health. Then note any darker hearts, which each count as half a health point. For example, five full hearts plus two half-hearts equals 11 health total.
Why This Matters
Accurate health reading is crucial in PvP situations. A player with many full hearts is significantly healthier than one with mostly half-hearts, even if the total looks similar at first glance. The color distinction prevents misreading someone's actual threat level or survival chances.
Practice Recognition
Spend time observing different players' health displays during casual play. This trains your eye to quickly recognize patterns—a fully healthy player versus a wounded one becomes instantly obvious. Over time, you'll read health values as naturally as you read nametags themselves.
