Optimize Performance While Keeping Visual Quality
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
If you experience frame rate drops, determine which visual elements are most demanding. Typically, particle-heavy biomes (caves, storms) and fog rendering consume the most resources. Monitor performance in different environments.
Reduce Particle Load Strategically
Instead of disabling effects entirely, lower particle spawn rates in high-impact areas:
- Decrease ambient particle density in caves
- Reduce weather particle counts during storms
- Disable or minimize biome-exclusive effects in less-visited areas
- Keep signature effects (like fireflies or sandstorms) at reduced intensity
Adjust Fog and Rendering Settings
Fog is visually impactful but can be optimized. Lower fog density or reduce the number of colored fog layers. Disable dynamic fog changes if they cause stuttering. Prioritize keeping effects in biomes you visit most frequently.
Test Incrementally
Make one change at a time and test for 2–3 minutes in-game. This helps you find the sweet spot between visual immersion and smooth performance for your hardware.
