How to Tell Ores Apart at a Glance with Visible Ores Plus

One common problem with visibility packs is that everything becomes bright and you can no longer distinguish diamond from iron. Visible Ores Plus is designed so each ore keeps a recognizable identity. Here is how to read them quickly.

Color Families to Memorize

  • Coal stays dark and matte, so it reads as a low-value block even when highlighted.
  • Iron keeps a warm tan-grey tone; it is the most common ore you will see, so treat it as background noise.
  • Gold and nether gold share a yellow family, but nether gold appears on netherrack, which instantly tells you which dimension you are in.
  • Redstone stays red, lapis stays blue, diamond stays cyan, emerald stays green.
  • Nether quartz is the pale white ore, and gilded blackstone is the dark block with gold flecks.

Practical Scanning Tips

When you enter a cave, do a quick pass looking only for cyan and green first — those are your priority ores. Then do a second pass for redstone and lapis if you need them. This two-pass method stops you from stopping at every iron vein.

If two ores look similar in a dim tunnel, place a torch and step back. The pack relies on contrast, and contrast only works when there is light. In the Nether, remember that quartz and gold spawn on the underside of overhangs, so tilt your camera up periodically.
