How to Stop the Villager Names Mod From Naming Certain Villagers

Sometimes you want some villagers to remain unnamed, for example if you plan to name them yourself or if you are using them for a specific build. The Villager Names Mod only names villagers that are currently unnamed, so there are a few ways to keep control.

Using Name Tags First

If you want a villager to have a specific name instead of a random one, apply a name tag to it before the mod detects it as unnamed. A named villager is skipped by the mod, so your chosen name stays. This is the simplest way to protect individual villagers from random naming.

Disabling Naming Entirely

If you want no villagers named at all, open the mod's config file and set both useMaleNames and useFemaleNames to false. Save and restart the game. From then on the mod will not assign names to any villager. You can re-enable either option later if you change your mind.

Clearing a Name

If a villager already received a random name and you want it gone, you cannot remove a name tag in vanilla. Instead, you can rename the villager with a new name tag, or in creative mode use commands to replace the villager. Remember that the mod will not rename a villager that already has a name, so clearing the name is required before the mod will pick a new one.
