How to Give Your Villagers Custom Names in the Villager Names Mod

The Villager Names Mod automatically assigns a random name from its built-in list to every unnamed villager, but you may want to override that with your own names for specific villagers. The mod supports custom name lists that you can edit.

Finding and Editing the Name List

Locate the mod's config folder inside your Minecraft instance directory. Inside it you will find a file that holds the name lists used by the mod. Open this file with a plain text editor. You will see separate sections for male and female names. Add your own entries one per line, following the same format as the existing entries. Save the file and restart the game so the mod reloads the list.

Applying Names to Existing Villagers

Villagers that already have a name will keep it. To force a rename, you can use a name tag on a villager in-game, which overrides the mod's automatic naming. If you want the mod to pick from your new custom entries, remove the existing name first or spawn a fresh villager. Keep in mind the mod only names villagers that are currently unnamed, so editing the list affects new spawns and any villager whose name you clear.

Tips

Keep backups of your edited list. Avoid duplicate entries. If a name contains special characters, test it in-game to confirm it displays correctly on the trade screen.
