Villager Config Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Villager Config Mod?
Decide what you want to change first, then open the mod's config file in your instance's config folder. Most features (discounts, conversion chance, trade cycling, old trade mechanics) are toggled there, while custom trades are loaded from a datapack.
Where do I put the config file and how do I reload it?
The config lives in the config folder of your Minecraft instance, and you edit it with a text editor. Restart the game or reload the config through the mod's in-game config screen if it provides one, since changes usually don't apply to already-loaded villagers.
How do I add custom villager trades with a datapack?
Create a datapack in your world's datapacks folder and add the trade definitions in the folder structure the mod expects. Then run the reload command so the game picks up the new trades.
Do custom trades apply to villagers that already exist in my world?
Trades are usually assigned when a villager first offers them, so existing villagers keep their old trades. You generally need fresh villagers or a way to reset their trades for new datapack trades to show up.
How do I set the minimum and maximum discount a villager can give?
Open the config and find the discount settings, which let you define a lower and upper bound for the discount villagers can apply to their trades. Set both values so the mod clamps any discount into that range.
Why are my villagers still giving huge discounts after I changed the config?
Discount values are often stored on the villager when the trade is created, so villagers that already have a discount keep it. Cure or replace the villager, or reset its trades, for the new limits to take effect.
How do I turn on the old pre-1.14 trade mechanics?
Enable the old trade mechanics option in the config file. This restores the older behavior where trades and prices worked differently from the current system, so expect existing villagers to behave inconsistently until they're refreshed.
How do I control whether villager trades change when I replace their workstation?
Use the trade cycling option in the config to decide if breaking and replacing a workstation rerolls a villager's trades. With it disabled, villagers keep their current trades even after their job block is swapped.
How do I set the chance for a villager to turn into a zombie villager?
Find the conversion chance setting in the config and adjust it to the probability you want. This controls the odds when a villager is killed by a zombie, so a low value makes conversions rare and a high value makes them common.
Does this mod work on a server and with other villager mods?
It's designed for both singleplayer and servers, and config plus datapack changes need to be present on the server for multiplayer. Other mods that also change villager trades or discounts can conflict, so test them together and check load order if trades look wrong.
