Enhance Underground Lighting in Caves
Understand Cave Lighting Changes
Vespera improves how light propagates through caves by enhancing torch and lava glow. Torches cast more realistic, directional light, and lava emits warmer, more natural illumination. This makes underground exploration feel less flat and more atmospheric.
Optimize Your Torch Placement
Place torches strategically to take advantage of improved lighting:
- Position torches at regular intervals along cave walls rather than just on the ground—they now cast more realistic shadows and light falloff.
- Use torches near lava pools to create warm, ambient lighting zones.
- Combine torches with lava to create layered lighting that feels more natural.
Adjust Ambient Light Settings
If caves feel too dark or too bright, access shader settings and look for Ambient Light or Cave Brightness sliders. These control how much baseline light fills shadowed areas. Lower values create more dramatic, shadowy caves; higher values provide better visibility without sacrificing atmosphere.
Test different settings in various cave types—deep caverns, lush caves, and dripstone caves all respond differently to lighting adjustments.
