Quickly Swap Between Tools While Building

Set Up Your Tool Column

Arrange your most-used building tools (pickaxe, axe, shovel) vertically in your inventory, stacked directly above one hotbar slot. This creates a dedicated tool column.

Swap Tools Mid-Build

1. Click the hotbar slot below your tool column to select it

2. Hold your modifier key (default: Left Alt)

3. Scroll your mouse wheel up or down to cycle through your tools

4. Release the key when your desired tool appears in your hand

The small on-screen display shows you exactly which tool is in each position of that column, so you always know which direction to scroll. Your hotbar slot number stays the same—only the items rotate through it.

Pro Tip

Use different hotbar slots for different tool sets. For example, slot 1 for mining tools, slot 2 for building blocks, slot 3 for combat gear. This lets you keep multiple item columns organized and accessible without opening your inventory.
