Adjust Path Tracing Quality for Your Computer
Finding the Settings Menu
Open the Shader Options screen while in-game by pressing the key bound to shader settings (usually accessed through video settings). Look for the Path Tracing or Lighting Quality section.
Balancing Performance and Visuals
Path tracing creates realistic light bouncing, but higher settings demand more from your GPU. If you experience frame rate drops:
- Lower the Path Tracing Samples or Bounce Depth slider to reduce the number of light calculations per frame
- Disable Global Illumination if your computer struggles, keeping only direct lighting
- Reduce Shadow Quality to improve frame rates while maintaining the shader's mood
If your computer handles the load well and you want deeper, more realistic shadows and color bleeding between blocks, increase these same settings incrementally.
Testing Your Changes
After adjusting, spend a few minutes in different lighting conditions—caves, forests, and near water—to see how shadows and indirect light behave. Reopen the shader menu and fine-tune until you find the sweet spot between visual quality and smooth gameplay.
