Use Velvet Frames with Distant Horizons for Far View Distances

Enable Both Mods Together

Distant Horizons renders terrain far beyond normal chunk limits, creating expansive views. Combined with Velvet Frames' upscaling, this lets you see further without severe framerate loss.

Configuration:

1. Install and enable Distant Horizons

2. Set your desired view distance in Distant Horizons settings (32+ chunks is typical for the "distant" effect)

3. Enable Velvet Frames Engine with your shader pack

4. Adjust Velvet Frames' internal resolution downward if framerate drops—the upscaling will maintain visual quality

Manage Performance with Distance Rendering

Distant Horizons is CPU and GPU intensive because it renders terrain data far away. Velvet Frames reduces GPU load by rendering at lower resolution, but CPU load remains high. If you experience stuttering:

  • Lower Distant Horizons' view distance by 8–16 chunks
  • Reduce shader complexity (disable volumetric effects if available)
  • Lower Velvet Frames' internal resolution further

The combination works best on systems with both decent CPU and GPU; CPU-only bottlenecks won't be solved by upscaling alone.
