Understand What the Speed Counter Measures
Reading Your Speed Display
The small text box in the top right corner shows your current movement speed in a specific unit: blocks per second. This tells you exactly how many blocks of distance you're covering every second.
How Speed Increases
The counter will show higher numbers when you:
- Sprint on foot
- Use an Elytra to fly
- Boost your Elytra flight with fireworks
- Ride vehicles or use other movement abilities
- Fall from a height (gaining velocity)
Connection to Blur Intensity
The motion blur effect on your screen edges is directly tied to this speed value. The faster your blocks-per-second number climbs, the stronger and more intense the velocity blur becomes. This creates a visual feedback loop—you can watch both the number and the blur intensify together as you accelerate.
This makes the speed counter useful for understanding exactly how fast you're moving and predicting how strong the blur effect will be.
