Which Pickaxes Work With Vein Mining (and What Doesn't Matter)
Any Pickaxe Works
Vein Mining is not tied to a specific pickaxe, material, or enchantment. A wooden pickaxe triggers the same vein-breaking effect as a diamond one. You never need to enchant a pickaxe with anything to enable the mod's behavior — it applies automatically to every pickaxe you use on ore.
What This Means in Practice
1. Grab whatever pickaxe you have on hand.
2. Mine any ore block as you normally would.
3. The adjacent same-type ore blocks break automatically, no extra input required.
Practical Implications
- Early game: you can clear a vein with a basic pickaxe the moment you find one, which speeds up your first iron and coal gathering.
- Enchantments like Fortune or Silk Touch still apply to the blocks you break, so a Fortune pickaxe affects the drops from the whole vein. This makes enchanting worthwhile even though it is not required.
- Durability is consumed per block broken, so a large vein will wear down your pickaxe faster than mining a single block. Carry a spare or repair materials.
- Because the effect is automatic, there is no toggle in the base behavior. If you want to avoid triggering it, mine an isolated ore block rather than one touching others.
